Most of us look forward to getting an extra hour of sleep when Daylight Saving Time comes to an end every year. Of course, those who sleep on a natural or organic mattress from Natural Sleep Mattress of Atlanta might look forward to it even more.

Daylight Saving Time has its fans and its detractors. When it comes to sleep experts, the thinking is usually that changing the clocks twice a year has a detrimental impact on our sleep patterns. It might be a little easier to make the adjustment in the fall, when we “gain an hour” by setting the clocks back an hour than in the spring when we “lose an hour” by setting the clocks ahead.

So, what compelling reason drives the nation (well, most of the nation – Hawaii and Arizona, with the exception of the Navajo lands, do not implement Daylight Saving Time) to put its citizens through a time change that has a negative effect on our health twice a year?

A lot of people will tell you we do it to save energy. There may have been a time when that was true, but today the savings if any are nebulous. The people who clamor the loudest for Daylight Saving Time – some of whom argue that we should make it permanent – like having extra daylight hours to do things after work.

It would be really interesting if someone could do some research into how many of those people actually use those extra hours of sunshine to do things and how many still just come home after work and hit the couch.

Those who look forward to the end of Daylight Saving Time – which is on Sunday, November 1 this year – have concerns about children walking to school or waiting for the school bus in the dark. And there are plenty who point to the fact that it goes against our natural circadian rhythms to get up in the dark as often happens with Daylight Saving Time.

If you are among those who bemoan the end of Daylight Saving Time, may we suggest treating yourself to something special that will make the time change a little easier to bear – something, perhaps, like a luxurious new bed from Atlanta’s home of natural and organic mattresses, Natural Sleep Mattress!
